Legend had it way back in the day, the dead used to run amok thanks to a witch by the name of Charolette. Charolette would gather her undead minions by taking their tombstones away so they could not be remembered. This caused the souls to become restless and reanimate their old bodies, to which they would wander around at night looking for their tombstones.
